Hi everybody! My name is Matt and Im an Online Communications Specialist here at Volusion. Welcome to Two Minute Tuesdays, where we give you two minutes of ecommerce advice to bolster your online success.
Recently, Bing and Google announced that social results are impacting how your page appears within search results and queries. With this important information in mind, use these ideas to boost your SEO health with social media.
First, optimize everything. Dont tweet or update your Facebook status until you have a carefully thought out plan for each of them. This means that you need to consider what keywords youre using, whether or not youll link to a specific page on your site, and your overall communication objective.
Next, encourage sharing. Again, the more viral your content becomes, the more people will want to engage with it. And as your content becomes more popular with people, it will also become more popular with major search engines like Google. You can do this by adding retweet and share buttons on your social pages, and even ask users to share your work.
Third, link back to your website. Social media is inherently on a third-party platform, which means that you can get a free link back to your site. For example, if youre doing a YouTube video on Social Media and SEO like I am, then you would link back to a page on your site that discusses social media. By optimizing for different pages by linking to them with similar content, you can help the SEO of the page in question.
Next, avoid crappy content. No one is going to want to share or link back to you if your content isnt up to par. Thus, make sure youre framing your content to provide information that will enlighten and enrich the lives of your readers. In other words, teach them, dont preach to them.
Last but not least, use social bookmarks. Social bookmarks include sites like Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, and many more. These are all great places to share your content so others can stumble upon your work. Thus, if one person finds one of your great blog posts and shares it with their friends, youve just obtained even more link juice for your own site.
